Statement of Institutional Commitment
The Lighthouse Medical Academy — Longwood, Florida
In response to the National Call to Action issued by U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon and the August 18, 2026 invitation of Florida Commissioner of Education Henry Mack, The Lighthouse Medical Academy — an institution licensed by the Florida Commission for Independent Education — publishes the following commitments. They describe what we already practice and what we hold ourselves accountable to.
1. Transparent, merit-based admissions. Admission to our programs is open to every applicant who meets our published requirements. We do not grant preferences — or impose disadvantages — based on race, sex, or other protected characteristics. Our requirements, program lengths, schedules, and costs are published and provided in writing before enrollment.
2. Free inquiry and an orderly learning environment. Our classrooms exist for one purpose: preparing students for healthcare careers. Instruction is grounded in clinical science and demonstrated skill — not ideology. We protect every student’s right to learn in an environment free from disruption, harassment, and intimidation, and we will not tolerate conduct that shuts down teaching or clinical training.
3. Intellectual pluralism in curriculum and hiring. Our curriculum is built around the competencies that employers and certifying bodies require — nothing more, nothing less. We hire instructors for their professional credentials, clinical experience, and teaching ability.
4. Affordability, pricing transparency, and student outcomes. Every student signs a Florida CIE-compliant enrollment agreement (Rule 6E-1.0032) that discloses tuition per clock hour, all fees, and our refund policy in writing before any payment is due — no hidden costs. We honor a 40% pro-rata refund policy. We define our success by our graduates’ readiness for employment: program completion, professional certification, and entry into the healthcare workforce. We are committed to tracking these outcomes and using them to improve our programs.
5. Academic rigor and honest assessment. Our students earn their credentials by demonstrating real clinical competencies — in the classroom, in the lab, and during 120 hours of supervised clinical practice in the Medical Assistant program. We do not inflate grades or award credentials for attendance alone. As artificial intelligence reshapes education, we commit to clear, written standards on its use in coursework, so that every credential we award reflects the student’s own verified knowledge and skill.
6. Serving Florida’s workforce. We exist to train the healthcare workers Central Florida needs — Medical Assistants, Phlebotomy Technicians, EKG Technicians, and Home Health Aides. We partner with CareerSource Central Florida to connect training with employment, and we recruit the next generation at Seminole County high school career fairs. Our mission is measured in Floridians equipped for good healthcare careers.
“The Lighthouse Medical Academy exists to open doors to healthcare careers in our community. We hold ourselves accountable to our students, their families, and the standards of the State of Florida.” — Luis Maisonet, Owner, The Lighthouse Medical Academy
